What are Hopi Ear Candles?

A very safe, natural and gentle alternative to ear syringing

The use of Hopi Ear Candles, by a skilled practitioner can (Thermo Auricular Therapy), in the form of a very gentle therapy, help with many different conditions affecting the head and in particular the ears and the sinuses. Hopi Ear Candles were first introduced to the West by the native American Hopi Indian tribe, who were renowned for their extensive knowledge of natural healing.

Hopi Ear Candles have been widely used throughout Northern America and Asia for quite a number of years and the use of ear candles for therapeutic purposes can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans.

An ear candle is in fact not a conventional candle at all, but rather a tube made out of natural cotton linen and impregnated with honey, and therapeutic herb oils. When the end of a candle is gently inserted into one ear and the other end ignited, a very gentle local heat is produced which combined with the oils and herbs in the candle, softens ear wax and draws it gently into the base of the candle . The process is repeated with the other ear.

The therapy is a safe and effective treatment for children. However, the process is unsuitable for those with perforated ear drums, ear grommets or tubes, and those with certain allergies or intolerances.

Stress, headaches and migraines are known to respond well and earache, balance/inner ear problems, tinnitus and sinus problems, can also be helped.

How is a session conducted?

After assessment, the client lies (fully clothed) on a couch and the practitioner applies an ear candle in one ear at a time, as described above. Afterwards a complete facial massage is carried out paying particular attention to the sinus areas, which helps relieve any pressure in that area.
